Canadian Specialist Hospital Laboratory ranked first in Dubai
Canadian Specialist Hospital (CSH), one of the largest private hospitals in Dubai catering to the tertiary health care needs of the Middle East, has been ranked number one by the External Quality Assurance Services (EQAS), based in the U.S.A., for the Laboratory Report submitted by the hospital in 2011.
EQAS programs are accepted around the world as invaluable tools used by laboratories to periodically assess their analytical performance and achieve added confidence in reporting their patient test results. Monthly reports provide informative statistical analyses and valuable peer group comparisons. Depending on the extent of participation in EQAS, laboratories receive anonymous samples to be tested by the methods routinely used in the laboratory, with results, then submitted to the Collaborating Centre for evaluation. The hospital enrolled in the hematology and immunoassays sections of the hospital’s laboratory in the program, designed to test samples once every month. EQAS rated CSH the top hospital in Dubai for accuracy, second in the UAE, and 21st globally. The program involves participation by over 800 hospitals across the globe.
Dr. Ibtisam Al Obaid, Specialist Histopathologist at CSH, said “Since laboratories are quite simple in their operation, programs of such nature substantiate the equipment and methods deployed by the hospital, as well as the competency of the staff, result in greater accuracy. I highly recommend the EQAS program to all labs in order to enhance their performance. In the coming years, we look forward to enrolling more sections in the program, other than the existing ones, as well as increasing the number of tests to be conducted under. I am extremely grateful to my team and the management of the hospital for their enduring support and their high performance level, which have led to this achievement.”
Dr Hayder Al Zubaidy, CEO of CSH said, “It is a great honor to CSH to receive a Certificate of Achievement from an esteemed international organization, such as EQAS for our efforts and methodology. We have consistently participated in EQAS since May 2011, and are proud of our achievement today.”
Since its establishment in 2007, the CSH laboratory has been conducting an average of 20,000 tests a month. The hospital has also enrolled in two other similar programs with the Royal College of Pathologists, Australia Quality Assurance Program (RCPAQAP) and Randox International Quality Assurrance System (RIQAS), with results to be announced next year.
