Cook Children’s Reaches Out to Children of the Middle East for Special Medical Treatment
Cook Children’s Health Care System, a not-for-profit pediatric health care organization based in Fort Worth, Texas, will celebrate in March 2018 its 100th year of healing children and giving hope to families when there is none. As part of the celebrations Cook Children’s will expand its already extensive International Patient Program by offering children in the Middle East private and specialized Orthopedic treatments of elevated care, in addition to the other areas of excellence already offered in Neurology, Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Cardiology, Genetics and Urology.
To promote the expanded International Patient Program for children in the Middle East a delegation from Cook Children’s, including specialists in the fields of pediatric Oncology, Neurology and Orthopedics, is visiting the Gulf region from January 22 - 31, 2018 to meet with the region’s health authorities, medical institutions, and leading medical experts, to explore collaborative ways in which the world-class expertise of Cook Children’s services can been used to benefit and heal children in need from the Middle East.
By using the power of social media, the delegation will also reach out directly to the region’s parents who are seeking information and consultation regarding specialized VIP pediatric medical care, by hosting an informational session with prominent “Mommy Bloggers” based in the U.A.E.

2017 was a year of many milestones for Cook Children’s including: the opening of its new South Tower which includes a new Cardiology floor that houses 3D viewing and printing capabilities using MRI and CT scans to make models of patient’s heart for pre-surgical planning; a new Neurosurgery wing with brand new $9.3 million 3.0 Tesla MRI, for providing highly accurate, real-time digital images of the brain; a new Behavioral Health department; new Emergency department; and new lab.
2017 also saw the opening of a state-of-the-art pediatric urology center led by a world-renowned team of medical professionals, that use a new robotic surgical system known as the Da Vinci XI. This technology offers minimally invasive surgery that reduces pain, risk of complications and hastens recovery time for patients.
Within the field of Neurology, a number of milestones were reached in 2017 including the establishment of a Stroke and Thrombosis Program with the goal of providing rapid diagnosis, developing more effective treatment and improving outcomes in pediatric stroke. Fenfluramine trials for patients with a rare, devastating form of epilepsy was also introduced and Cook Children’s celebrated its 10th year anniversary of Deep Stimulation Surgery (DBS) for pediatric patients.
Additionally, within the field of Endocrinology, Cook Children’s team of specialists cured a baby afflicted with hyperinsulinism using 18F DOPA, a new drug used to diagnose focal lesions in children with the rare disease.
