Deadline for WOMART applications extended through 31 March

The art submission deadline for first WOMART group exhibition has extended through Saturday, 31st March, 2012.
‘WOMART’ is one of several new 2012 art initiatives launched by Funoon – the art division of Dubai Ladies Club, which is a member of Dubai Women Establishment. WOMART is a series of quarterly group shows featuring artworks by regional and international artists, under one common theme. Each showing will introduce a thought-provoking theme that aims to inspire and raise our awareness of complex topics.
On the occasion, Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai Ladies Club said, “Our objective in introducing WOMART to our annual events calendar was to create opportunities for dialogue and reflection within the community. Our hope for these shows is to see them evolve into important platforms for communication and expedite a positive change in mindsets and diminish preconceived ideas about gender and identity.”
The first group show will feature a fresh collection of artist works under the theme of “Male Perspective: Images of Women by Men”; where male artists are invited to explore questions of gender, feminine identity and societal expectations through their unique male perspective.
Bin Kalli added, “Our launch exhibition sends out a very positive message while promoting a culture of respect and mutual understanding at the same time. I am confident that the establishment of an art exhibition by men and summarized in a single theme of “Art about Women", will without a doubt be fruitful. I encourage all male artists from across the country and the region to take advantage of this opportunity to show their support and understanding of women and their issues, through their art.”
To accommodate the many budding artists who have expressed interest but were unable to complete their artworks due to their busy schedules, the application deadline has been extended until 31st March, 2012.
All male artists interested in participating, must submit an electronic application form along with a photograph of their artwork, the Artist Statement and their CV to Funoon@dubailadiesclub.com. Each application is subject to an application fee of AED 200 to help cover costs associated with a call for entry. The first WOMART exhibition is scheduled for mid-April 2012.
‘WOMART’ is the most recent art initiative launched by Funoon – the art division of Dubai Ladies Club since its launch in early 2011. The newly reinvented art division was established to guide and solidify the role that arts and other cultural resources play in defining and enhancing the social fabric and quality of life of people living in the UAE. Funoon will work with local, regional and international foundations to enhance the UAE’s reputation as a cultural destination through programs that educate and expose the public to a rich and diverse range of cultural expressions through a variety of initiatives.
