Deira City Centre showcases children’s artwork for Earth Day
Environmental disasters occur almost daily worldwide, increasing the importance of generating awareness about environmental negligence. To spread the word about Earth Day, children from the local Dubai community are showing off their artistic skills at Deira City Centre. The budding artists from surrounding schools will have their environment-themed paintings on display in the Bridge Gallery, in the Metro Link from April 22nd to 30th. This exhibition is part of Deira City Centre’s ‘Love Art’ initiatives which is intended to showcase art from the local community.
Earth Day is the largest civic observance in the world, with over one billion people participating worldwide. This year’s efforts at the mall are part of an art competition, wherein approximately 70 children will have their Earth Day artwork displayed and entered into a contest to win Deira City Centre GiftCards. Each drawing will showcase the young artist’s individual talent and highlight the importance of Earth Day and protecting the environment year-round.
“We’ve opened up our ‘Love Art’ initiative to local schools as part of Deira City Centre's commitment to the surrounding community and education through the arts,” said Fuad Najjar, Senior Asset Director, Asset Management, Shopping Malls. “Earth Day is an important initiative because the environmentally-conscience actions we take today will greatly impact the world future generations live in. ‘Love Art’ is just one way children can express their creativity while promoting an environmental cause.”
The ‘Love Art’ initiative at Deira City Centre showcases work on a rotating basis from local artists and schools. Most recently, artwork created by children from the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC) was displayed in the mall’s Bridge Gallery to show the creativity of special needs children and the healing power of art.
Background Information
Deira City Centre
City Centre Deira, Dubai, UAE, first opened its doors in November 1995. At the time, it virtually redefined the concept of "malls" for the region. As the first large-scale, mixed-use shopping destination, complete with retail outlets, restaurants, entertainment facilities and a hotel, City Centre Deira created an international dimension for one-stop shopping and entertainment for the Middle East, bringing it to an entirely new level.
