DET Inspects 572 Kiosks to Raise Awareness on Compliance

The Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection (CCCP) Sector in the Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) in Dubai conducted inspection visits to 572 kiosks located in various commercial centres recently as part of its campaign to improve compliance and enhance the shopping experience in the city.
The visits were specifically meant to make sure that the owners of the kiosks are aware of the laws and requirements related to doing business, and had the necessary permits for their commercial activity.
Abdul Aziz Al-Tannak, Director of the Commercial Control Department in CCCP, said the inspection visits were specifically intended to eliminate the practice of unwanted and annoying promotional activities of kiosks set up in malls and commercial centres. “Recently, there has been a rise in such practices, causing inconvenience to shoppers and tourists. Often, people running these kiosks canvas customers in mall corridors and public areas, causing inconvenience to shoppers, and obstructing the business of other merchants,” Al Tannak said.
“We urge merchants and investors to abide by the laws and requirements for doing business, and desist from promoting products and services using illegal or uncivilised methods, such as annoying phone calls,” reminded Al Tannak.
Al Tannak emphasised the importance given by the Department of Economy and Tourism to providing a safe and competitive economic environment for businesses and investors. DET will continue the awareness campaign and inspection visits to the markets and those who do not comply with the instructions on sales and promotions will face penalties.
Consumers too can submit complaints and raise their concerns relating to their shopping experience through the Dubai Consumer App available on Apple, Google and Huawei stores, by calling 600545555 or on the Consumerrights.ae website.
