Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) completed its summer training for 131 high school and university students enrolled in the programme, which took place from 17 July to 18 August 2016. This supports DEWA’s efforts to develop national talent, and harvest a generation capable of achieving sustainable development.

“DEWA is committed to supporting and developing national talents, to achieve the objectives of the UAE National Agenda, while developing the capabilities of Emiratis. This supports our strategy to enhance Emiratisation by developing and supporting talented Emiratis. As part of our commitment as a governmental authority with social responsibilities, DEWA is always keen on attracting high school and university students to take part in its summer training programme. It includes mechanical and electrical engineering, business management, finance, and legal affairs fields. This year, DEWA’s summer training programme helped school and university students gain hands-on experiences to master their studies, and shape their choices of their own future career,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA endeavours to develop the capabilities of Emirati youth, and enhance their innovation and excellence skills. This prepares them to contribute towards achieving DEWA’s vision and strategies, and transforming Dubai into the smartest city in the world. DEWA adopts a strategy to reach the highest possible percentage of Emiratisation, especially in engineering and technical field, while improving the skills of students, in adherence with the vision of the wise leadership to develop a knowledge-based economy. DEWA has achieved excellent results in Emiratisation. The total number of the Emirati employees is 2,476, comprising 86.4% of senior management and 47.6% in middle management.” added Al Tayer.

“Through our summer training programme for this year, students were placed into departments that relate to their field of study, to help them interact with market needs. The programme provided students with the opportunity to improve their skillset, and prepared them for their professional lives, while familiarising them with a working environment, and instilling positivity. This will enable them to do their best in their professional careers, serve their country with loyalty, and safeguard the prosperity and progress of the Emirate,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then.
