DEWA marks World Heart Day

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) marked the World Heart Day celebrations as part of its strategy to enhance Ccorporate Social Responsibility and support community initiatives and in line with its commitment to work with all concerned parties to promote sustainable development in the UAE. 

“Our participation in the World Health Day event is in line with our strategy to promote social and humanitarian initiatives, as well as strengthen social relations amongst all segments of society. By launching a number of activities in collaboration with DEWA employees, we are also raising awareness about healthy lifestyles and best practices to prevent heart diseases,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, VP of Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Chairperson of DEWA’s Women Committee. 

A team comprising members of DEWA’s Women Committee and Corporate Communications Department launched several activities on Sunday 29 September including lectures, and awareness workshops, as well as released red heart-shaped balloons outside DEWA’s main office to support World Heart Day. The female employees also took a pledge for a healthy lifestyle. 

Several government entities in the UAE are joining others in more than a hundred countries to celebrate World Heart Day. With information and guidance focused on changing daily routine, the event is also an opportunity to take a step forward to a better lifestyle in tune with the environment. 

DEWA launched an awareness campaign disseminating messages through a number of communication channels such as e-mail and electronic displays and phone screens, and social networking for a period of 3 days starting from Sunday, September 29 to Tuesday October 1 containing information about the adequate lifestyle to maintain a healthy heart.

DEWA organises and supports a variety of events, and awareness programmes about best health practices to educate employees on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to take over and merge the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department that had been operating independently for several years until then.
