du continues to empower young students to earn while they learn with its Agent 055 Network
Following the success of last year’s Agent 055 Network activation, du is once again offering ambitious UAE youth the chance to whet their appetites for entrepreneurship. This year’s initiative will be more dynamic than ever before, immersing young wannabe entrepreneurs in the business world and looking more toward talent recruitment. This initiative enables du to further strengthen its commitment to the development and prosperity of the local community.
“By now, it is clear that our business is unwaveringly dedicated to the growth and development of individuals and communities throughout the UAE,” said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications at du. “In line with the UAE Vision 2021 – which aims to foster local entrepreneurial talent – du is steadfast in its mission to contribute to the creation of a robust knowledge economy and support the achievement of the global sustainable development goals. We are proud of what we have accomplished so far through the Agent 055 Network initiative and are looking forward to witnessing the new batch of students cultivate their entrepreneurial skills through the programme.”
Agent 055 Network provides students with the opportunity to gain a real-life work experience through the lens of a successful, established business model. The initiative is open to all university students, aged 18 and above. Eligible applicants are required to submit an application –comprising responses to a specific set of questions – and undergo a face-to-face interview. Admission to the program will be determined based on candidates’ previous networking and professional experience. A total of 20 students will be admitted and trained on how to develop soft skills, sales acumen and negotiation tactics.
Chosen applicants will be offered an internship position and the chance to work at du for four weeks. To further incentivize students, du will also be giving them the opportunity to take on a sales role, retain the earnings from what they sell, and essentially ‘earn while they learn’.
“Our objective isn’t just to help students build entrepreneurial skills – we also want to arm them with the business, networking and negotiation prowess that they need to become the leaders of tomorrow. With this in mind, our dedicated HR and training team has crafted a comprehensive programme – one that includes a wide range of modules featuring products and general learning tools. These skills will prove instrumental to the students’ future success,” added Badri.
A total of seven students partook in last year’s programme. A survey was also conducted to assess students’ feedback, attitudes and preferred development areas. The study found that students showed greater inclination towards starting their own business, including the skills needed for them to successfully run a business. The survey also revealed that students rated themselves more highly on business skills including solving complex problems, business communication and networking. In addition, they rated themselves better at managing their time to reduce stress, and generally being happier.
du encourages all eligible students who want to participate or find out more about Agent 055 Network, to visit www.du.ae/agent055.
