du Donates 120 Computers to Charity Schools in the UAE in Partnership With Dar Al Ber
As part of its Equipment Donation Policy, du recently donated 120 used computers to Dar Al Ber, which were then given to two charity schools in the UAE - Al Manama Charity School and Al Salaf Al Saleh School. These computers will now be placed in the school’s computer labs and will be used by children of all grades for educational purposes.
“At du, giving back to the community of the UAE is of utmost importance to us. Through our ‘Equipment Donation Policy,’ we consider our donations as a positive step forward in promoting a circular economy. We strive to support educational programmes internally and externally in order to educate the youth and develop future leaders of the UAE. In line with the ‘Year of Giving’, this donation through Dar Al Ber is testament to our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and positively contributing to the community in the UAE,” said Adbulwhaed Juma, Executive Vice President – Brand & Corporate Communications.
In 2015, du finalised its Equipment Donation Policy, thus allowing the organisation to donate its used assets, whether IT equipment or otherwise, to registered charities. As part of this policy, du has previously donated furniture and computers to the National Charity Schools, Manzil Center for Special Needs, as well as the SmartLife Foundation for their activities held for blue collar workers.
du fosters a strong culture of sustainability and volunteering amongst its employees; as an organisation giving back to the community is an integral part of du’s brand essence. Some of du’s regular charitable efforts include its annual Mawaed Al Rahman initiative in Ramadan. This year the telecom delivered a large number of volunteering hours to pack and distribute boxes of essential food ingredients to thousands of underprivileged families across the UAE. During the ‘Year of Giving’, du has also committed to a 2017 Volunteering Plan, where it will provide 10,000 volunteering hours of community service through its staff, which it has almost already achieved.
