Dubai Chamber seminar apprises businesses with the importance of domain name management

As part of its efforts to empower the business community with the relevant business tools, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) organised the “Domain Name Management Seminar” at its premises recently.

Attended by lawyers, managers, business owners, managers and consultants from the intellectual asset management field, the seminar shed light on the various aspects of domain name registration, protection as well as practical tools for resolving domain name disputes.

Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services, Dubai Chamber, stated that the seminar came as part of the Chamber’s endevour to educate the business community with the latest tools in the area of domain name management as the experts at the workshop apprised the attendees with the applicable dispute resolution mechanism.

Ms. Kazim accredited the success of the seminar to the fruitful cooperation with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority as she stressed that the workshop achieved its objective of raising awareness on the importance of domain name while highlighting its various aspects of registration, protection and resolution of disputes.

We believe it is important that local businesses understand the benefits and value of registering domain names, the protection involved and the tools for making them even more efficient and affective.” said Mohammad Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director Policies and Program in the TRA.

Mr. Tariq Ali, Business Development Officer, and Mrs. Nadya Al Jasmi, Business Operations Officer, TRA, gave presentations on Domain Names’ Registration Process and Requirements, while Mr. Nassir Al Ali, ICT Specialist, TRA, spoke on The Role of .ae Domain Administration in Resolving Domain Name Dispute.

Also, Mrs. Hoda Barakat, Founder, Hoda Barakat Legal Consultancy, gave an overview of WIPO’s Domain Name Dispute Resolution Mechanism, and Mr. Omar Shteiwi, Head of Legal Compliance & Corporate Governance, Nestlé Middle East FZE, spoke on How Companies Manage their Domain Names.

Dubai Chamber’s Legal Services department regularly organises trainings, seminars and workshops to educate the business community with the various trade legislations, laws and rights as part of the Chamber’s efforts to empower them to meet the challenges, if any, arising from their trading activities.
