Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, celebrated Emirati Children's Day on  Thursday 15th March 2018 during the third edition of its ‘Reading Box’ initiative, which is taking place under the theme ‘A generation reads. A civilisation rises.’

The initiative aimed to spread awareness among all segments of the UAE community about children’s rights and the important role that children play in building the future of the country. The event included workshops such as ‘Happiness Keys’, a wide range of artistic workshops such as ‘Cut and Paste’ and ‘Pottery Restoration’, and a discussion session about the UAE child, all of which attracted the participation of a wide number of children and adults.

The ‘Reading Box’ initiative has gained considerable momentum and expanded each year with fresh activities that contribute to instilling a love of reading among all members of the community and especially young people. The ‘Reading Box’ coincides with many events such as Emirati Children's Day, International Day of Happiness and Mother's Day, and its activities are tailored to these occasions to provide a community platform that highlights the values of UAE society.

The ‘Reading Box’ initiative won the Arab Library and Information Award in the ‘Best Project’ category at the 28th Annual Conference in Cairo last year, where it was recognised for its successful efforts to make reading a fundamental part of UAE life.

Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the Emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit the Emirate’s citizens, residents and visitors.
