Dubai Culture to bring Dubai’s heritage to the forefront with inaugural ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’

In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a leading tourist destination, His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for culture, arts, and heritage, has announced the launch of the inaugural ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season,’ aimed at bringing the city’s heritage to the forefront.  

His Highness Sheikh Majid announced the Authority’s newest initiative during a visit to Al Shindagha Historical Neighbourhood. His Highness was accompanied by Marwan Bin Beyat, Director General, The Private Office of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture; Dr Salah Al Qassim, Cultural Advisor to Dubai Culture; and Mohammed Jassem Al Aridi, Director of Heritage and Archaeological sites Department.

Marking of the Emirate’s historically preserved heritage sites, under the ownership and management of Dubai Culture, the ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’ will run from October 2013 to April 2014, coinciding with the wealth of heritage events and activities that the Authority hosts during the course of the year.

His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed said: “Our city is home to some of the region’s most magnificent heritage sites, which have paved the path for our growth over the last years. By highlighting these venues through the ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season,’ we are revealing our most precious historical assets to residents and visitors, allowing them to gain invaluable insights into destinations that were at once the hubs for business, trade, and culture.

“The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority is committed to fostering a genuine understanding of the city’s heritage and its traditions by providing visitors with the opportunity to live our heritage, and that is what the ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’ will accomplish.”

The inaugural ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’ will encompass of an array of activities and workshops held across the various heritage sites, as well as within the heritage centres that are operated by the Authority across public schools in Dubai.

Dubai Culture will work with in collaboration with various government entities to position the ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’ as the meeting ground for the city’s ambitious goal – Expo 2020.

The Authority will also work alongside small and medium enterprises, academic institutions, and cultural organisations, who will lend their expertise by providing Dubai Culture with ideas and methods that will nurture a greater understanding of the city’s heritage.
