Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for culture, arts, heritage and literature, is organising ‘Theatre Acting’ workshop as part of Dubai Programme for Youth Theatre 2018 under the title ‘Fundamentals of Theatrical Performance for Beginners’. The workshop is part of the Authority’s preparations to launch the 12th edition of Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre.

The workshop at Dubai Folklore Theatre is under the supervision of Mohammed Saeed Al-Salti and Adnan Mohammed Saloum. Targeting the youth from the ages of 17 to 25, the workshop aims to introduce them to theatres in a scientific and practical way. By introducing the basic concepts of acting and movement, the workshop will qualify the youth by developing their creative, physical and cognitive abilities, building their characters, and showcasing their full confidence in theatrical and artistic performance.

The participants will suggest a creative scene which they will present individually to apply what they learned during the workshop, and will also perform shorter scenes underpinning the difference between acting and reacting. In addition, a group play will be produced at the end of the workshop which will be showcased in accompaniment to the 12th edition of ‘Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre’.

The festival will take place beginning of October at the Culture and Science Association in Dubai theatre. During this 12th edition of the festival, new awards will be conceived and a celebration of the artistic and cultural personalities selected from among the leading figures in the performing arts sector will take place. The event will also be diversified to enrich the overall atmosphere of the festival.

The festival aims to highlight the creativity of theatre groups in the UAE, and provide a platform to identify the talents and potentials of actors, directors, authors, decorators, producers, makeup experts, sound engineers, visual displays and lighting, and fashion designers.

Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the UAE’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit Dubai’s citizens, residents and visitors.
