Dubai Culture unveils 9th edition of the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre from Nov. 3

The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated Authority for heritage, arts and culture, unveiledthe agenda of the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre, to be held from November 3 to 13, 2015, at the Cultural & Scientific Association in Al Mamzar.

This year’s edition of theDubai Festival for Youth Theatre will showcase a series ofplays, inspirational discussion forums, and various other activities that are aimed to celebrate the theatre heritage of the UAE. The event will also honour the Theatre Personality of the Year and will conclude with an award ceremony to fete the winners.

The organising committee, led by Yasser Al Gergawi, Acting Projects & Events Director of Dubai Culture, and head of the organising committee of Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre, announcedthe main features of this year’s edition, the themes of the plays, and details of the participating theatre groups at an event held at the Culture & Scientific Association. Playwrights and producers were also in attendance.

Moderated by Fatimah Al Saquor, Presenter and Anchor at Sama Dubai TV, the event offered a platform for participants and media representatives to discuss the plays being performed.

Among the plays this year, Khorfakkan Arts Theatre will perform ‘Masa’a Al Mawt, written by Basimah Mohammed Younis, and directed by Ibrahim Al Kahoomi. The Dubai Folklore Society Theatre will present ‘Al Jalsa,’written by Abdullah Saleh, and directed by Ganim Nasir, while Eyal Zayed Theatre will perform ‘Al Rasasa’ written by Mohammed Refat Younis, and directed by Saeed Zaabi, based on a novel written by Tawfeeq Al Hakem.Youth Theatre & Arts will present ‘Lo’ubah,’written by Saeed Al Zaabi, and directed by Ahmad Al Shamsi while Al Ahli Dubai Theatre will present ‘Mas’alat Wagt’ written by Ahmad Al Majed, and directed by Hassan Yousif. The festival will also feature a number of short plays, produced by Short & Sweets Short Plays Festival.

Yasser Al Gergawi underlined the commitment of Dubai Culture to empowering youth theatre talent through the annual festival. He said the festival has firmly established itself as a key event in the agenda of local theatre earning acclaim from theatre-lovers and the community.

He praised the promising youth talent in the UAE and commended the unwavering support of the concerned authorities that helps in nurturing them. He said the theatre scene will witness the evolution of new creative talents led by the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre, adding that new categories have been added to the festival awards to encourage the youth.

This year too, the festival will present the Personality of the Year Award that honours the most influential figure in the UAE theatre scene who plays a pivotal role in enriching it and also supports youth talent.

At the opening ceremony, Ahli Dubai Theatre, with the support of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, will pay tribute to the UAE National Flag Day.

Highlighting Dubai Culture’s commitment to encourage more youngsters, an interactive ‘smart media’ workshop have been held for students of the Ajman University of Science & Technology as part of the festival. The workshop was monitored by Fatimah Al Jalaf and discussed several related topics such as marketing Intelligence, importance of ‘smart media’ in enhancing the cultural scene in region and globally, and ‘smart media’ risk management.
