Dubai Earns International Praise for Hosting Inaugural Women’s Triathlon World Cup

Dubai received high-level international recognition following the successful staging of the inaugural Women’s Triathlon World Cup, the first global event of its kind dedicated exclusively to female athletes. The championship was organized by the Dubai Sports Council as part of the Sheikha Hind Sports Initiative and within the framework of the Dubai Sports Plan 2033, under the supervision of the World Triathlon (TRI) and in cooperation with the UAE Triathlon Federation.

The event attracted wide international participation from multiple continents, marking a significant milestone in the history of women’s triathlon worldwide and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading host of major international sporting events.

Antonio Arimany, President of the World Triathlon, praised the championship’s professional organization, describing it as “a historic achievement for triathlon and for women’s sport in the region.” He said the collective efforts behind the event had helped create new opportunities for women to participate, compete, and excel on the international stage.

Arimany also highlighted the central role played by the Dubai Sports Council and the local organizing committee, commending their professionalism, commitment, and hospitality. He further acknowledged the contribution of the UAE Triathlon Federation in supporting the development of the sport and advancing the participation of women and girls through triathlon.

In his message, the President of the world Triathlon said that Dubai’s overall atmosphere, the quality of organization, and the engagement of volunteers and partners had set a new benchmark for future editions of the championship and for women’s triathlon globally. He expressed the federation’s intention to build on this momentum and strengthen cooperation to inspire more women and girls to discover the sport.

Eisa Sharif, Chairman of the Event Organising Committee and Director of the Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, said: “We are extremely pleased with the outstanding success of the inaugural Women’s Triathlon World Cup, an achievement that reflects Dubai’s clear vision in supporting sport, empowering women, and strengthening the city’s position on the global sporting map. I extend my sincere thanks to the World Triathlon and the UAE Triathlon Federation for their close cooperation and for the pivotal role they played in delivering this event to the highest international standards.”

He added: “This success once again confirms Dubai’s proven ability to host the world’s largest and most prestigious international sporting events. The city benefits from state-of-the-art sports venues and infrastructure built to the highest global specifications, as well as highly qualified national professionals with the expertise and operational experience required to manage and deliver major global championships with precision and efficiency.

Sharif also stressed that Dubai’s international sports calendar will continue to expand in the coming period, saying: “The next phase will see Dubai welcoming more major international and global sporting events. We remain committed to attracting high-quality competitions that align with Dubai’s long-term sports strategy and reinforce its standing as a leading global destination for elite sport, leaving a lasting institutional and sporting legacy.”

The event also drew positive attention from international partners within the global triathlon ecosystem. Sam Renouf, Chief Executive Officer of the T100 Triathlon World Tour, expressed his appreciation for the success of the inaugural Women’s Triathlon World Cup in Dubai, describing the championship as successful at all levels. He said he looked forward to exploring future cooperation opportunities between the T100 series and the event, reflecting growing international confidence in Dubai’s capacity to host and develop high-quality global competitions.

The Women’s Triathlon World Cup - Dubai 2025 featured multiple race categories, including Super Sprint races for beginners and age-group athletes competing individually and in teams, Sprint races for amateurs and age-group athletes in individual and team formats, and an elite professional category contested by leading Olympic and world-class triathletes. All races were conducted according to the approved international distances for each category, covering swimming, cycling, and running, within a tightly organized schedule that demonstrated a high level of technical and logistical readiness.

The championship saw the participation of prominent figures in international triathlon, alongside teams and national selections representing countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. This diversity enhanced the competitive value of the event and reinforced its status as a leading global women’s championship.

The races were broadcast on Dubai Sports Channel, the official broadcaster, with the professional women’s race also aired on international networks. This global coverage provided the event with wide international exposure and underscored Dubai’s standing as a premier destination for hosting major sporting events in line with the highest international standards.

The event is supported by major national institutions. DP World serves as the official sponsor. and in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Police, and Al Jalila Foundation.
