Dubai Health Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for the establishment of an International Centre of Cardiology in the emirate.

The agreement was signed during a tour of the US by DHA chairman and director general Humaid Al Qutami.

“The Dubai Health Authority is aware of the growing demand for its specialised health services across hospitals, primary care centres and specialised centres,” he said.

“Cardiology is one of the most important fields of medicine and the establishment of an international centre for cardiology, will increase Dubai’s competitive capabilities on the international medical front, and it will further bolster its position on the global medical tourism map.”

He added that the DHA has cardiology departments that provide interventional and open-heart cardiac procedures that have become a referral centre for complicated cardiac cases.

The centre is expected to further enhance the provision of high-level care and will have the latest equipment, “super-care facilities and a unique healing environment”, according to the statement.

It will also focus on training, education and research in the field of cardiology.

Dubai Health Authority is seeking to make the emirate a destination for medical tourists.

It is also experimenting with the latest technologies including a tele-health initiative and a recently unveiled smart pharmacy with a robot to dispense prescriptions.
