Dubai Police partners with du to utilise mobile data network for information transfer

In a step to support government efforts in reducing rates of traffic accidents and in support of the vision of UAE leadership, Dubai Police signed a partnership agreement with du during GITEX Technology Week 2011, giving the organisation access to utilise the telecommunications company’s mobile data network to transfer information captured by radar, quickly and directly to the traffic police control room. This is the first collaboration of its kind, globally.
Leading the signing ceremony, held at the Dubai Police stand at GITEX, and signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police and Osman Sultan, CEO, du. Also present at the ceremony were Major General Eng. Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of Dubai Traffic Department and Waleed Almanaei, Deputy Director of Dubai Traffic Department. And from du Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du; Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Human Resources and Shared Services Officer, du , Ahmad Aburahima, Vice President, Government Relations, du and other members of du’s executive management team.
“This agreement is a manifestation the UAE leadership’s vision of public private partnership model. Dubai Police is constantly looking for ways in which we can partner UAE national companies, to continually develop the services that we are able to offer to the public,” commented Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police. “du’s collaboration with Dubai Police will help to save lives; our partnership aims to limit road traffic accidents on UAE highways to the best international standards.”
Osman Sultan, CEO, du, commented; “We are proud to have signed this partnership agreement with Dubai Police, and look forward to further cooperation with them in the future. As an Emirati company, we are committed to supporting the government’s efforts in serving the community, and we are delighted that the investment and effort that has gone into our network will contribute to the safety of the people, by reducing the amount of traffic accidents.”
As part of the agreement, du will also cooperate with Dubai Police to launch an awareness campaign that will use police radars as a tool to spread awareness and remind people of necessary road safety measures. Further details will be shared in the near future.
