Dubai Studio City Reaffirms Commitment to Film Production Industry at Cabsat 2018
Dubai Studio City, a regional platform for companies within the broadcasting, filmmaking, media production and entertainment industry, has confirmed its participation in the upcoming CABSAT 2018 in partnership with du, UAE-based telecommunications provider and the exclusive broadcast and media service provider for enterprises setting up business in the Dubai Studio City free zone.
CABSAT is the largest broadcast, digital media and satellite expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region. Set to run from 14 to 16 January at Dubai World Trade Centre, the 24th edition of the annual event is expected to attract around 20,000 visitors active in content creation, management and distribution to explore the latest products and technologies that are taking centre-stage today.
As a strategic partner of CABSAT, Dubai Studio City will offer event delegates the chance to tour its facilities. It will also sponsor the ‘Script to Screen in 48’ competition that invites film production students to participate in a half-day workshop with Martin Gaiss, former Senior Vice President of Global Creative Content at 20th Century Fox, and use their learnings to create short films.
Under the terms of the sponsorship, Dubai Studio City will offer contestants coaching and mentorship opportunities with in5 Media, an enabling hub for the media startup community, as well as access to filming and editing equipment
Furthermore, Dubai Studio City will participate in the judging panel of the CABSAT Appathon competition that challenges 10 content development teams to create the best TV app using the Metrological software development kit (SDK) in just 48 hours.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Studio City, said: “As it has done year after year, Dubai Studio City is proud to partner with industry-leading events such as CABSAT that convene the very best media production entities from around the world and reinforce Dubai’s status as a regional hub for the film, creative and media sectors.
He added: “Digitalisation - of content, services and production - is redefining go-to-market strategies and changing customer requirements. The phenomenon is leading to the emergence of a whole new breed of cloud-based, mobile-first startups and distinctive platforms, further motivating more international companies to set up regional offices. In line with its crucial role as an industry enabler, Dubai Studio City has cultivated a solid ecosystem boasting world-class production services, cutting-edge facilities including one of the largest soundstages in the region, and unparalleled learning opportunities for local and international talent. We are pleased to showcase our best-in-class expertise and infrastructure at CABSAT 2018.”
Fahad Al Hassawi, Deputy CEO, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), said: “We are committed to offering the best-in-class end-to-end broadcast and media solutions for our customers, and our partnership with Dubai Studio City enables us to reach out to leading enterprises in the UAE. During CABSAT, we are also pleased to showcase our partnership with Dubai Studio City through an innovative augmented reality integration, and the benefits that we can offer to enterprises in the free zone.”
According to the Arab Media Outlook 2016-2018 report, digitalisation is one of the main trends causing a paradigm shift in the media industry, driven by the increasing tendency of the youth to consume and produce online content that is mainly due to the rise of smartphone and video space usage.
