Emirates Environmental Group Plants Indigenous Trees in Collaboration with Sumitomo Rubber Middle East

Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) continued its quest of increasing sustainable green spaces within UAE under its flagship slogan Together, We Plant, which is one of the four constituents under the umbrella of the “For Our Emirates-We Plant” project.
In collaboration with Sumitomo Rubber Middle East FZE, Emirates Environmental Group planted a total of 65 indigenous saplings (These saplings upon maturity in 5-7 years will be able to mitigate approximately 0.50 CO2 emissions annually) in Gems New Millennium School, Al Khail and Dovecote Green Primary School, both being active Academic Members of the Emirates Environmental Group. The tree planting programme was headed by EEG’s Chairperson – Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi, who was accompanied by the management of Sumitomo Rubber Middle East along with the principal, faculty and the students.
Mrs. Al Mar’ashi said “Together we Plant" is a good platform to build awareness and appreciation of trees particularly among the student community. A hands-on tree planting enables them to understand its importance and lasting benefit to the environment and instills in them the sense of responsibility. The planted trees not only engage youth and communities in learning about their local environment, it also improves air quality, creates healthier outdoor spaces and restores urban habitats for wildlife, thus advancing global reforestation and intercultural awareness.
Mr. Masato Saruta – General Manager – Administration Department of Sumitomo Rubber Middle East FZE said “We were delighted to work closely with the young students and show them the value of these trees as a symbol of hope for our future and that in spite of all the environmental challenges, together, we can make UAE a leading country in Sustainability. This tree planting activity supports Sumitomo Rubber Group’s Corporate Social Responsilibity as an “Eco First Company” which contributes to the development of a sustainable society and it creates value not only for our Company but also for the Society”.
With the conclusion of this activity EEG has been successfully coordinating, facilitating and overseeing the planting of 2,095,075 indigenous trees in the UAE and the neighbouring countries since its inception leading to the accumulative CO2 mitigation of 12,354 MTCO2E.
