Emirates NBD launches the Awesome Travelling Machine
Dubai Marina Mall may be the ideal place to meet up with friends and family, but visitors to the mall were pleasantly surprised recently, by the sight of an Emirates NBD ATM strolling along the walkaways and escalators of the mall. The Awesome Travelling Machine (ATM), which sauntered alongside visitors and followed children, excited much laughter and amusement from visitors to the mall.
A creatively filmed video that captured the reactions of mall visitors to the Awesome Travelling Machine went on to win two bronze awards at the recent Dubai Lynx, the premier awards honouring creative excellence for MENA’s advertising and communications industry. “The Dubai Lynx Award sets the benchmark for creativity in the region, and also forms part of the Prestigious Lions Festivals stable which includes the Cannes Lions,” said Saif Al Mansoori, Deputy Head - Group Marketing and Branding, Emirates NBD. “We are really proud to have won two awards this year, as we managed to hold our own agains such established global brands like Coke, Sony, Vodafone, Toyota, Land Rover, Bridgestone, Unilever, Nestle, Reckitt Benckiser and others.”
This year the Dubai Lynx received a record of 2092 entries from 19 countries across the MENA region.
Speaking about the concept of the Awesome Travelling Machine, Al Mansoori said: “The remote-controlled ATM is a non-functional machine and its cash dispensing powers have not been enabled. The first phase of this fun marketing exercise was well received by mall visitors, and we may consider launching it across other emirates, or using it at Emirates NBD events. The video has already received more than 300,000 views since it was launched a month ago on Youtube.”
Arguably the most commonly used service by retail banking customers, ATMs are a common sight in most malls and places of public interest. The remote-controlled ATM from Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, highlighted that the bank serves to its million plus customers via the largest ATM network in the UAE. The innovative marketing initiative, which underlined the bank’s easy accessibility and reach to its customers, was exhibited at the mall for two days, and emphasised the message that Emirates NBD’s ATMs are never far away.
Emirates NBD has the largest ATM network in the country with more than 720 ATMs and CDMs. The Emirates NBD ATMs offer a wide range of services with one third of them also providing cheque and cash deposit services. In addition, several cash related services, including bill payments, credit and debit card activation, mobile number update, transfers between own accounts online and mobile banking registration services are also available through the ATMs.
Emirates NBD, the leading banking group in the region, was formed on 19 June 1963, when H.H. Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum signed the Charter of Incorporation of the National Bank of Dubai (NBD) which became the first National Bank established in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With the blessings of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, NBD merged with Emirates Bank International (EBI) on 06 March 2007, to form Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the region by assets. On 16 October 2007, the shares of Emirates NBD were officially listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM). The merger between EBI and NBD to create Emirates NBD, became a regional consolidation blueprint for the banking and finance sector as it combined the second and fourth largest banks in the UAE to form a banking champion capable of delivering enhanced value across corporate, retail, private, Islamic and investment banking throughout the region.
