Emirates NBD drives customer convenience with ‘Bank on Wheels’

Emirates NBD added another innovative service to its list of achievements today, by operating the ‘Bank on Wheels’ services, which will enable the bank to assess its growth strategy for physical branches. Driven by customer convenience, the novel initiative comprises a secure, fully equipped Emirates NBD vehicle, which will be parked at various customer touch points in Dubai, to offer the services of a Cash/Cheque Deposit Machine (CDM) and a dedicated customer service representative. The Emirates NBD ‘Bank on Wheels’ will also be used to provide customers with essential banking services on-site at major events. This new innovative service will come as an addition to the fleet of ATMs on wheels launched back in 2004.
The Emirates NBD ‘Bank on Wheels’ will also soon house NCR’s latest technology, the APTRA Interactive Teller Machine (ITM), which was introduced earlier this year. Emirates NBD is the first bank in the region to embrace the APTRA Interactive Teller Machine (ITM), which brings the personal branch banking experience to an ATM. Packed with multiple ground-breaking features, such as direct interaction with a live teller and encashing cheques in real time, the Interactive Teller Machine will provide Emirates NBD customers with an extended automated branch experience within its ‘Bank on Wheels’ service.
In addition, customers wishing to complete financial transactions or apply for a particular financial product or service will be assisted by the customer service representative, who will also be on hand in the ‘Bank on Wheels’ to answer customer queries.
Suvo Sarkar, General Manager - Retail Banking, Emirates NBD, said: “Customer convenience is a key driving force at Emirates NBD. With one of the largest networks of physical branches, ATMs, CDMs and our state-of-the-art Internet and mobile banking platforms, Emirates NBD offers customers convenient and speedy access to banking services across the UAE. The ‘Bank on Wheels’ initiative will enable us to assess our growth strategy and evaluate the need for setting up physical branches, in busy districts that are home to large customer groups.”
The Emirates NBD ‘Bank on Wheels’ vehicle will be parked in the newly developed areas where customers do not have access to physical Emirates NBD branches or ATMs. It is also expected to reduce the traffic from the busy branches if parked in the same area.
The ‘Bank on Wheels’ initiative by Emirates NBD follows closely from other innovative services that the bank has been first to market with, including being the first bank to launch online banking, the first bank to introduce mobile banking and the first to launch the Interactive Teller Machine and many more.
Background Information
Emirates NBD
Emirates NBD, the leading banking group in the region, was formed on 19 June 1963, when H.H. Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum signed the Charter of Incorporation of the National Bank of Dubai (NBD) which became the first National Bank established in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). With the blessings of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, NBD merged with Emirates Bank International (EBI) on 06 March 2007, to form Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the region by assets. On 16 October 2007, the shares of Emirates NBD were officially listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM). The merger between EBI and NBD to create Emirates NBD, became a regional consolidation blueprint for the banking and finance sector as it combined the second and fourth largest banks in the UAE to form a banking champion capable of delivering enhanced value across corporate, retail, private, Islamic and investment banking throughout the region.
