Emirates victorious on first day of World Airline Squash Tournament

This year’s World Airline Squash Tournament (WAST) kicked off yesterday at the Aviation Club in Dubai, with hosts Emirates victorious over the International Team. 

The closely-contested match between Emirates’ Asif Bhatti and Eric Foconi led to a 3-2 victory for Emirates. Raol Aspe of Emirates followed suit with a 3-1 victory over Taher Surti and from the women’s team, Emirates’ Heba Maged won her match against Sarah White 3-0 while Kaneez-Hasnain followed suit with a 3-0 victory over Margaret Grace.

The other matches saw Kuwait Airways beat British Airways Team 2, while British Airways Team 1 scored against the Cathy Pacific.

Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, WAST has brought together amateur players from eight airlines – Emirates, Air New Zealand, Air Nuigini, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Qatar Airways.

The tournament, which runs until 28th October, opened on 24th October with a gala dinner at the Blue Elephant restaurant at Bustan Rotana and sponsored by Emirates airline, GE and Precise.
