Empower Calls For Expanded Adoption Of District Cooling Solutions For Sustainable Communities

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world's largest district cooling services provider, emphasized the vital and strategic role of the district cooling industry in achieving enormous climatic, economic and societal gains, along with its effects and effectiveness in ensuring the transformation of urban habitats into sustainable community incubators, and fostering an environment that encourages the application of sustainable best practices at the level of consumption, efficiency and rational management of energy resources.
Empower made the statement on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2022, which is organised within the framework of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2022, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar). The high-level WFES summit is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from January 17 to 19, 2022 and attracts international industry leaders to showcase their latest technologies and innovations.
Empower called on decision-makers around the world to adopt and expand the scope of uses of district cooling solutions that have proven their effectiveness as the best environmental option for space cooling, as they contribute to reducing energy consumption and cutting down greenhouse gases, which constitute one of the main challenges facing societies seeking to move towards a green economy and sustainability.
District cooling systems are also the most important sustainable cooling solution that ensure stability and safety for future generations, as they contribute to preserving the environment and achieving a green economy, which is one of the most prominent features of sustainable development paths that help achieving the UAE's goals aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
The district cooling system is a reliable and energy-efficient solution, thanks to its ability to serve thousands of customers in different parts through a centrally located single cooling plant with a life cycle of 30 and 40 years, compared to conventional air-conditioning systems, whose life cycle is merely 15 years in maximum.
"The UAE attaches great importance to sustainability and environmental preservation to contribute to limiting climate change. To this end, it has launched various strategies aimed at increasing the proportion of renewable energy and energy conservation, including the Emirates Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. The global leadership that the UAE has achieved in the district cooling industry is the fruit of the country’s investment in advanced and world-class infrastructure and facilities," said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
“As a key partner of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Empower is moving forward in providing all types of support to the various initiatives of United Nations aiming at transforming the cooling sector to efficient and clean cooling. Dubai has been a pioneer in taking advanced steps in the district cooling industry and it spares no effort to share its expertise in the environmentally friendly district cooling systems with any country around the world. At the same time, Empower is keen to expand the use of sustainable cooling systems to contribute to reducing carbon emissions through the use of advanced and high-quality technologies in district cooling,” he added.
