Escape to Westeros for a First-Hand GOT Experience

Game of Thrones fans who are looking for a real-life end to their favourite TV show’s magic, should look no further than Northern Ireland. The combination of its many filming locations, the chance to try Westerosean wear, enjoy a dragon’s point of view, tuck into a themed feast and learn to duel like Arya, provides fans with the perfect curtain call.
Setting the tone for the ensuing exploration is the Touring Exhibition that allows fans to be inspired by and marvel at breathtaking images and enthralling artifacts from the hit HBO series. The new exhibition, set to open on 11th April, will transport visitors to the very heart of the Seven Kingdoms for an up-close look at authentic props, costumes and set decorations.
Key activities to experience (full list below):
- An in-depth tour of filming locations can be arranged with Ballygally Castle, complete with a themed buffet fit for a Khal and Khaleesi, from AED 816 (pps in a superior room).
- The Iron Islands home to the mightiest fleet of ships in the Seven Kingdoms can be viewed from a dragon’s point of view with a bespoke helicopter tour, starting from AED 1,087.
- Visitors can experience the mighty Castle Ward, with guides who have featured as extras, doubles or support actors in the show, offering a sneak-peak into the action unlike any other.
Upon exploring the wider landscape, travellers can unleash their inner Arya as they take aim and fire off a slew of arrows during an archery session, or choose to engage with the fearsome direwolves of the North.
Those looking to dip their toe into Dothraki waters can opt to spend a night in one of Northern Ireland’s glamping pods dotted across the region. The experience is not far removed from the many nights of camping the powerful army endured, conversing over roaring fires and taking in the beautiful surrounding scenery.
Some other stunning filming locations not to be missed when in Northern Ireland include The Dark Hedges (The King's Road), Tollymore Forest Park (north of Winterfell), Downhill Beach (Dragonstone) and Murlough Bay (The Stormlands).
Following the release of the final season, fans looking to keep the magic alive can visit the brand-new Game of Thrones Studio Tour – which will open in 2020 in the Linen Mill Studio in Banbridge, in partnership with HBO Licensing & Retail. Promising a truly immersive experience, the Studio Tour offers the chance to experience the craftsmanship and artistry of the production team, as part of the largest authentic public display of Game Of Thrones artifacts in the world, comprising of costumes, sets, and props.
