Fairmont Nile City lights it up blue on World Autism Awareness day
As part of Fairmont Nile City’s continuous commitment towards the communities where our colleagues live and work, the hotel collaborated with The Egyptian Autistic Society to raise awareness about autism while launching the “More to Autism” campaign aiming to ensure that autistic people and their families get the support they need and to make sure that all autistic children are understood, supported, and appreciated for who they are.
Today, one in every 60-80 children is diagnosed with an autism and despite this high prevalence, research shows that many parents of young children have very little knowledge about autism and are not seeking help early enough. While there is currently no cure for autism, early detection and intervention can result in critical improvements over a lifetime.
Frank Naboulsi, Regional Vice President & General Manager, Fairmont Nile City welcomed the guests saying, “We are very keen on continuously raising awareness about causes that affect the communities where we live in and operate and out of all the causes that we get involved in as an organization, autism awareness is one that is very dear to my heart. It is our responsibility to raise awareness about early detection on the families’ end and about integrating autistic individuals into our communities.”
The press conference was attended by a number of ministers, parliament members, public figures, and celebrities, including Dr. Ghada Wali, Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr. Tarek Shawki, Minister of Education, Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish, Chairman of Suez Canal Authority, Dr. Sherif Aboulnaga, President of 57357 Children Cancer’s Hospital, Zakareia Nassef, former Ahly Club & national team football player, Hala Sedky, actress, and Amir Shahin, actor.
Dr. Dalia Soliman, Founder & President of The Egyptian Autistic Society commented, “We continue to raise awareness about autism as we believe in the importance of our responsibility towards our society and our concern for the need to raise awareness about it and how to deal with it.”
Fairmont Nile City also lit up in blue amongst other iconic landmarks in the city including, the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Hanging Church, Amr Ibn Al Aas Mosque, Suez Canal Authority, Egyptair building, Cairo Tower, Cairo Opera House, Cairo University, and the American University in Cairo.
World Autism Awareness Day, which was named by the United Nations General Assembly by the end of 2007, aims to promote public awareness of this irregularity. Autism refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication.
Fairmont Nile City seeks to help and empower communities that are disaffected or vulnerable. It is in a spirit of cooperation and exchange with the employees that the hotel wishes to move forward, in order to achieve a common goal of forging links between cultures by supporting the development of populations and their integration into their community.
