Federal Tax Authority Showcases 3 Key Initiatives During UAE Innovation Week

The Federal Tax Authority, FTA, is taking part in the UAE’s Innovation Week

The Federal Tax Authority, FTA, is taking part in the UAE’s Innovation Week, which was launched last week, under the slogan ‘UAE Innovates 2021’, with the aim of enhancing and promoting an innovation culture and encouraging community participation in designing and developing future experiences and initiatives.

His Excellency Khalid Al Bustani, Director-General of the FTA, said that the Authority’s participation in UAE Innovation Week is in line with its strategy to encourage innovation, development, and to contribute to the UAE’s efforts to strengthen the national strategy for innovation and digital transformation, in order to continuously develop and improve government services. His Excellency stressed that this contribution reflects the FTA’s understanding of customer needs and its efforts to meet their expectations and keep them happy.

H.E. Al Bustani confirmed that the FTA is committed to promoting a culture of innovation among its employees by implementing various continuous activities and programmes that provide an innovation-encouraging work environment. These activities have the objective of improving services, developing tax systems, and establishing future plans that correspond to local, regional and global developments, in line with the directives of the wise leadership and the pillars of the UAE Centennial 2071.

H.E. Al Bustani said: “The FTA has launched several innovative programmes and applications and is working to launch more smart services, as information technology plays a prominent role in providing a suitable environment for digital transformation and ensuring information security and confidentiality.

“The FTA, through its innovation strategy, is seeking to be a global leader by applying innovative mechanisms to implement tax-related procedures and collect taxes. The Authority’s mission is to establish a regulatory environment that encourages creative and innovative ideas, guarantees capacity-building of innovative employees, engages customers, suppliers, partners and community members in finding innovative solutions to the challenges and available opportunities in the Authority, and adopts innovative approaches to achieve a sustainable financial diversification for the country and future generations,” H.E. Al Bustani said.

H.E. Al Bustani added: “The Authority’s strategy is to develop an innovative tax environment to promote self-tax compliance, establish a tax system and innovative tax compliance methods, provide all administrative services in accordance with the best standards, and entrench a culture of innovation in the corporate work environment.”

H.E. Al Bustani concluded by saying that the FTA has organised several events and launched three innovative initiatives during UAE Innovation Week 2021, which provides an important opportunity to share experiences and meaningful interaction for knowledge transfer and human resources development.

The FTA’s three initiatives included the ‘Tax Innovation Lab’ initiative, which involves holding remote brainstorming meetings on various critical topics that promote innovative ideas, the second initiative, ‘Monitoring Tax Innovations’, highlighted the most remarkable innovative achievements in the tax field, and the third initiative was a series of online comprehensive talks, comprised of virtual dialogue sessions on innovation management, research and development and future trends in the field.

Federal Tax Authority

By virtue of this Federal Law by Decree a public federal authority shall be established under the name of the Federal Tax Authority. The headquarters of the authority shall be located in the city of Abu Dhabi. The authority shall be in charge of managing and collecting federal taxes and related fines, distributing tax-generated revenues and applying the tax-related procedures in force in the UAE.

The authority shall be managed by a board of directors chaired by the Minister of Finance and a sufficient number of members to be appointed and remunerated by a Cabinet resolution, based on the chairman’s nomination. The authority shall have an independent annual budget that shall be deemed as public funds and exempted from all taxes and fees.
