GEMS Education, an international K-12 education company based in Dubai, has teamed up with Aruba Networks, Inc. to install a wireless network solution across all their schools in order to implement a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiative. The move to a more technology enriched environment has made GEMS Education the first education group in the region to adopt the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) across all its schools in the UAE.

Through this partnership Aruba Networks will provide GEMS Education with reliable and scalable wireless access for all their students and teachers. They will have secured Wi-Fi coverage to access the school network and internet.

Aruba Networks will be using their ClearPass Access Management Solution to ensure a wide variety and quantity of devices that students and teachers will bring, including smart phones, tablets and wireless enabled e-readers, will be accommodated within the network installed. This solution will also help to accommodate the wireless access needs of guests visiting the schools.

Hervé Marchet, Group Chief Technology Officer at GEMS Education said: “It is of utmost importance that platforms of knowledge and learning must move with the times and be updated on the current and upcoming technological trends. BYOD introduces more innovative and interactive methods that open up ground for more unique methods of teaching and learning in GEMS Schools, using the devices that students have constant access to these days. Hence, why we need to equip our students and faculty alike to adopt and prepare for these changes that affect the ways of teaching and learning on a daily basis. From an organisation point of view, adopting a BYOD solution also proves to be extremely cost effective and the solutions proposed by Aruba Networks will help us to implement BYOD in GEMS Schools in an efficient manner.”

Zeeshan Hadi, Territory Manager for UAE at Aruba Networks, added: “We are pleased to be part of GEMS initiative that embraces tools like Aruba Clearpass to make education more interactive and takes education to the devices the students are familiar with and use even at their homes. Aruba delivers a comprehensive solution to enable BYOD and ensures that the solution is secure and easy to use by students and the employees”

Background Information

GEMS Education

In 1959, two teachers, KS Varkey and his wife Mariamma, arrived in Dubai.

At the time, Dubai was a burgeoning trade centre on the Arabian Gulf. The Varkey family had left Kerala, India to seek a better life for their family. What they found was a real need to educate children arriving in the city from around the world.

Their son, Sunny, added a visionary’s ambition to a practitioner's experience. From simple roots in a family of teachers, GEMS Education, is today an international company with schools and education services across the Middle East. We still share the same mission - to provide a quality education to everyone.
