GEMS Education selects Samsung as technology partner

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced that it has secured a contract from GEMS Education, the world’s largest K-12 private education company, for the supply of laptops and smart tablet PCs for the academic year 2013-2014.
The agreement will allow Samsung to provide teachers and students in GEMSschools with its range of state-of-the-art Notebook PCs as well as ATIV Smart PCs that enable web-based collaborative learning. As a strategic technology partner of GEMS Education, Samsung has been working closely with the GEMS since 2011.
This partnership will help accelerate the transformation of classroom education in GEMS schools, which seeks to establish a unique learning environment in schools.
“It gives us great pleasure to extend our collaboration with GEMS Education, a strategic global account for Samsung. This agreement reinforces our credentials as a trusted technology partner for schools and educational institutions in the Gulf region,” said Madhav Narayan, Senior Regional Director, GCC, Enterprise Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “More importantly, it underscores the increasingly pivotal role that the region’s education sector expects Samsung to play in spearheading the transformation of the student learning experience by bringing next-generation technologies into the classroom.”
Samsung offers a full range of education hardware and software solutions, which have been designed to inspire a new student-centric learning experience. Through a constant, unrelenting focus on research and innovation, Samsung strives to improve student learning by empowering teachers with easy-to-use and immersive technologies that drive results.
“Technology is changing and enhancing the very nature of how students learn. As classrooms evolve from isolated learning environments into collaborative learning centers, we are pleased that our partnership with Samsung will enable us to continue to harness the power of technology to create an interactive and engaging environment for both our students and teachers across our entire school network,” said Mr. HervéMarchet, Group CTO, GEMS Education.
To date, Samsung has equipped more than 10 million pupils worldwide with its technology, and has worked on education projects with governments from around the world.
Early in 2013, Samsung signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ‘Smart Learning’ initiative that sought to outline a framework to tap into Samsung’s innovative digital convergence technologies to help build a world-class educational environment in the UAE. Samsung has a strong presence across other GCC countries through several projects in the education sector.
Background Information
GEMS Education
In 1959, two teachers, KS Varkey and his wife Mariamma, arrived in Dubai.
At the time, Dubai was a burgeoning trade centre on the Arabian Gulf. The Varkey family had left Kerala, India to seek a better life for their family. What they found was a real need to educate children arriving in the city from around the world.
Their son, Sunny, added a visionary’s ambition to a practitioner's experience. From simple roots in a family of teachers, GEMS Education, is today an international company with schools and education services across the Middle East. We still share the same mission - to provide a quality education to everyone.
