The General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi Foils an Attempt to Smuggle Two Kilograms of Narcotics at Al Ghuwaifat Border

Inspectors from the General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi foiled an attempt to smuggle two kilograms of narcotics at Al Ghuwaifat Border, in coordination with the Drug Enforcement Section in Al Dhafra. The narcotics were found in possession of an Asian Driver.

The Ghuwaifat Border received a tip off from the Drug Enforcement Section in Al Dhafra about a suspicious vehicle carrying narcotics. While carrying out customs procedures, inspectors realised that the suspect vehicle was followed by another vehicle with an Asian driver, and suspected a relationship between both vehicles. In light of their concerns, inspectors subjected both vehicles to inspection procedures, leading them to find two kilograms of crystal meth.

Inspectors issued a seizure report, seized the narcotic substance and transferred the truck driver to the concerned authorities to take the necessary legal action.

Mohamed Khadem Al Hameli, Acting Director General of the General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi, highlighted that the seizure proves the experience and the efficiency of the customs inspectors, and praised their key role in protecting the country from all smuggling attempts. Al Hameli said: “The General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi continues to invest in developing the capabilities of its human resources to support in their role in protecting our homeland.”

Al Hameli added: “The Administration continues to coordinate and cooperate with related government entities to facilitate the movement of legal trade and travelers across borders and prevent smuggling attempts which threaten the safety of the UAE and its residents. The administration’ employees are the country’s first line of defense in maintaining safety across its land, sea and air ports."

The Administration also uses the latest detecting devices and software to facilitate customs inspections and complete procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
