The Spring 2016 Community Classes registration is now open at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q).  Interested adults over the age of 18 can enroll now in one or more of these short courses offered on a wide variety of topics and taught by renowned scholars and top industry professionals.

This is the third round of the Georgetown University’s Community Classes, an opportunity to  explore fascinating and relevant topics in the liberal arts and humanities, or to discover new professional interests. While the classes aren’t for school credit, participants who complete 5 of the 6 modules will receive a certificate of completion. Some of the courses will be taught in Arabic, many are in English. All Community Classes combine Georgetown’s academic excellence in a format that is accessible to everyone and are offered at the convenient Education City campus.

“Based on the increasing enrollment and positive feedback of past participants, we have expanded the lineup of practical, skill-building courses,” said Veronica Donahue, Ph.D., the Interim Associate Dean for Continuing and Executive Education.

Dr. Donahue joined the Doha staff this past September from the Washington campus where she is the Associate Dean for Summer and Special programs at Georgetown University.  A great deal of her work in Doha is to make the prestigious university’s resources and educational opportunities accessible to the entire Qatar community. “Adult learners considering enrollment can look forward to a level of quality and personal enrichment at the non-credit short course level that is unmatched in Doha. The only requirements to enroll is that you are eighteen years old, and have a love of learning,” added Dr. Donahue.

The Spring 2016 semester schedule includes topics where Georgetown has world renowned expertise, such as in economics, politics, and literature, and also offers new titles such as Career and Life Design, Understanding Digital Marketing, Website Design and the Introduction to Public Finance.  Public Finance is a course where students will examine and measure intelligent public finance goals in line with the Qatar Vision 2030.

Laura Reynaud, a working professional who enrolled in a previous semester of Community Classes, commented on her experience, saying: "When I found out about Georgetown’s community classes, I signed up immediately. The lectures were both intellectually rewarding and stimulating and the professor was clearly one of the best I have ever had. It was a wonderful experience. I will definitely repeat."

Pre-registration is available both online and in-person.  The early bird discount is only offered until February 11, 2016.  Classes meet in the evenings starting at 6:30PM and begin March 6, 2016 for 6 weeks.   For a full list of classes and more information, visit http://qatar.sfs.georgetown.edu/cc.
