Georgetown University in Qatar to accept Common Application starting fall 2026

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) has announced the official opening of the fall 2027 admissions process on August 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone as the university begins accepting applications through the Common Application (Common App) for the first time. Georgetown’s Hilltop Campus in Washington, D.C., will also adopt the Common App, but applicants must select the Qatar campus within the platform to be considered for GU-Q.

Used by more than one million students worldwide, the Common App is a centralized online platform that allows students to apply to multiple colleges and universities through a single application. It includes shared components such as personal information, academic history, extracurricular activities, and essays, streamlining what can otherwise be a complex and time-intensive process.

The move is designed to reach a broader, more diverse pool of applicants and reduce barriers for students navigating multiple applications.

“Introducing the Common App as an additional application pathway expands access to Georgetown University in Qatar without changing what we look for in an applicant,” said Joseph M. Hernandez, Assistant Dean for Admissions and Strategic Enrollment Management. “It makes the process more accessible and manageable for students, as well as for the families, teachers, and counselors guiding them through the college search.”

Applicants will continue to have the option to apply through GU-Q’s existing direct application platform. The Fall 2027 admissions cycle opened on August 1, 2026. Key application deadlines include:

Early Action: November 1, 2026
Regular Decision: January 15, 2027
Transfer Applicants: January 15, 2027

Early Action applicants will receive admission decisions by December 15, 2026, while Regular Decision and Transfer applicants will be notified by April 1, 2027 for studies beginning August 15. Students applying through either pathway will be considered equally, with the same requirements, deadlines, and evaluation criteria.

More information on application options, requirements, and timelines for fall 2027 admission will be available ahead of the August 2026 launch.
