As part of its ongoing efforts to preserve Bahrain's handicrafts and traditional industries for future generations and to promote local artisan goods, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), represented by the Handicrafts Directorate, launched the Raku Pottery training workshop which will run until the 25th of January 2018 at Al Jasrah Handicrafts Centre.

The workshop, conducted by Tunisian trainer, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdullah, focuses on the basic skills and techniques of glazing ceramic raku pottery and will run for three weeks from 4pm to 8pm daily. Upon completion of the training, all 19 participants will receive a certificate to commemorate their participation.

“Raku generally refers to a pottery technique that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. This workshop comes as part of our handicrafts training programs which aims to develop the national workforce to produce high quality products. We look forward to hosting similar workshops in the coming future,” said the Director of Handicrafts Directorate at BTEA, Shaikha Wafa Saif Al Khalifa.

In addition, hosting such workshops throughout the year comes in line with the BTEA’s keenness to preserve the Kingdom’s crafts and traditional industries for future generations
