HCT-Dubai students train 132 family members to achieve computer literacy

The Higher Colleges of Technology – Dubai, Women’s Campus, students recently concluded their Family Computer School (FCS) where they have succeeded in training more than 130 female members of society including their families, relatives, and friends.

FCS, which has been run for the fifth time following its success in the last 4 years, is entirely organized, planned, and designed by Diploma Year 2 pm students. The training material encompasses basic levels of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, Movie Maker and Photoshop.

Sana Daoud, DWC business faculty member and project supervisor said: “The preparation for the FCS usually starts in September of every academic year and involves all Diploma Year 2pm sections throughout the 2 semesters. Each and every student should contribute to the project by searching for and registering the participants, delivering the course, managing classes and leading the entire preparation logistics.”

The project is usually initiated as a means for community outreach done in an effort to enhance computer literacy among a number of women from the local community each year. In doing so, DWC takes this opportunity to encourage students to practice the future and serve the community.

 “For the past 5 year, FCS has received and trained more than 464 female participants, who were mainly housewives and women who do not have easy access to technology," Mrs. Daoud added. They usually attend training classes every day for 4 weeks, she added.

According to participants’ feedback, the trainers –HCT-Dubai students – exhibited a high level of professionalism, patience and respect. Students were also praised for the methods and techniques of teaching and their willingness to devote extra time to help the participants practice the needed skills.
