P21 GmbH, a subsidiary of Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG, has been awarded another order from the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company du, to implement its Genset Efficiency solution in 57 additional mobile network base station sites. This order follows the initial order for 50 sites late 2011 and its successful delivery during the first quarter of 2012.

The Genset Efficiency solution controls the operation of mobile base stations’ diesel generators. An automotive style hybridization of the diesel genset with a battery in combination with an intelligent energy management increases efficiency and considerably reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 50% and more. In addition, the Energy Manager increases the transparency of operational tasks by monitoring the network infrastructure and thus decreases downtime of the towers.

“A successful collaboration is set to continue”, says Ayad Abul-Ella, Chief Executive of Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG. “We are proud about the trust and positive momentum we receive from a leading customer like du. This follow-up order once again confirms the quality and attractiveness of our Energy Management System for telecom operators and provides an important contribution to reach the double digit revenue we plan in the Middle East and Africa region already in 2013.”

du is an innovative, dynamic telecommunication services provider. With a rapidly increasing market share and a total of more than five million active mobile subscribers it is the fastest growing telecom company in the UAE.

Hatem Bamatraf, Executive Vice President - Network Development and Operations, du, said: “Operating our base transceiver station (BTS) sites as eco friendly as possible is a major goal within our environmental-friendly initiative of du. We are satisfied with the solution offered by Heliocentris as the first installations showed that the technology achieved the expected high savings in fuel consumption of over 50 % and reduction of generator runtimes of around 75%. The runtime reduction has the additional benefit of extended maintenance intervals lowering the operating expenses even more as well as reducing downtimes. We are glad to expand our partnership basis the satisfying experience of the collaboration.”

But these solutions not only reduce energy and operating costs, they also make a major contribution to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. “We are proud that for some sites we even could achieve greater savings than initially demonstrated in the trial phase, thus assisting du in becoming even more environmentally friendly”, Ayad Abul-Ella concluded.

The P21 branch office, located in Silicon Oasis, Dubai, will manage the implementation of this significant project. It has started operations end of 2011 with local staff including Sales, Solution Engineering and Project Management. “This underlines the importance of the Middle East Africa region as a growth driver and is at the same time a further sign of our strong commitment to this region”, says Michael Kutschenreuter, the General Manager of the Middle East Africa Business of Heliocentris/P21 and the Managing Director of the Dubai Branch.
