HelpAge International hosts Flash Mob
HelpAge International hosted a Flash Mob that took place in the Boulevard in Abdali in celebration of International Women’s Day. International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and it marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment is a global priority for the UN and member states who have committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. However, the rights of older women are often overlooked.
The theme for this International Women’s Day is #BeBoldForChange. The Boulevard in Amman provided us with the venue for the FlashMob, the dancers represented different professions on the back of their shirts to demonstrate that women can be whatever they wish.
HelpAge understands that Gender-based discrimination often intersects with age-based discrimination, creating new and distinct forms of discrimination in older age. Gender-based discrimination accumulates over a person’s life, often leading to acute marginalisation in older age. HelpAge will continue to work to fight gender-based discrimination.
HelpAge International is the secretariat to a global network of organisations promoting the right of all older people to lead dignified, healthy and secure lives.
