HMC staff celebrate first anniversary of heart hospital’s pharmacy department

Staff from Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) HeartHospital gathered on Tuesday to celebrate their Pharmacy Department’s first anniversary.

The special event commemorated life-changing achievements made by the Pharmacy Department since it began functioning in June 2011. The Pharmacy’s accomplishments included the implementation of Automated Dispensing Cabinets which aims to dramatically reduce patient waiting times; Computerized Physicians Order Entry which allows physicians to order prescriptions more efficiently for patients; and the change in design layout of the Outpatient Pharmacy, which has decreased patient waiting and processing time to just 15 minutes.

Manal Zaidan, Director of Pharmacy at HeartHospital was especially honored and thanked with an award of appreciation from her team for her dedication to the running of the department and for her excellence in leadership skills. She said, “Thank you to all those who have been involved with the day-to-day running of our Pharmacy Department. We are lucky to have such hardworking and dedicated team members from different cultures and life experiences. Together we have overcome difficult obstacles, but each and every one of you has contributed to the success of our department. Thanks also to other departments at HMC who have continued to support our efforts in making our Pharmacy Department increase quality healthcare standards for patients.”

Mahmoud Al-Raisi, Chief Executive Officer at HeartHospital was also thanked for his leadership and continuing support of the HeartHospital. Al-Raisi gave an inspirational speech before distributing awards and certificates of appreciation to the staff of the Pharmacy Department and other departments which participated in the planning for the hard work they have given over the past year.

Al-Raisi said, "Thank you to all hospital staff for their persistent hard work and dedication to the successful running of the HeartHospital and each of its departments. I would like to thank the Pharmacy Department today especially, for their commitment to providing excellent healthcare for the population of Qatar.”

Highlighting innovative technology as a key achievement, Al Raisi added, "We are the first hospital in Qatar to introduce electronic prescriptions in the Outpatient Department, and the first hospital here to implement the automated dispensing cabinets for Inpatients. It was a challenge we have successfully completed."
