Over the last 20 years, smartphone cameras have gone a long way, increasing the pixel count by more than 1800 times. For Huawei, smartphone camera revolution is not only about quality improvement but also about embedding intelligence to offer users an amazing experience.

The company promised that its new flagship phones will be different. And it kept its promise. The Huawei Mate 10 and Huawei Mate 10 Pro were indeed the devices worth the wait since they boast intelligent computing that makes user experience more powerful, faster and more intelligent.

Running on the Kirin 970, the world’s first processor powered by AI, the HUAWEI Mate 10 and HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro bring something new to the game with an intelligent camera that is a difference-maker in the market.

New Leica dual camera with the world’s largest aperture

Like their predecessors, the HUAWEI Mate 10 and HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro are equipped with a dual camera designed with the collaboration of German firm Leica. The new Leica dual camera system offers the world’s largest aperture of f/1.6 for more perfect, clearer pictures, especially in low-light conditions. The camera also comes with a 20 MP monochrome sensor, and a 12 MP RGB sensors, along with Image Optical Stabilization (IOS) and 4-in-1 hybrid zoom for crystal clear and bright shots. Moreover, the Kirin 970 has a dual image signal processor (ISP), which helps the camera focus faster and be more responsive.

AI Real-time object and scene recognition

The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro can look at things and recognize them in real time thanks to its AI-powered Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition with Real-Time Auto Settings feature. For example, if you point your lens at your food, you can see a small icon showing a fork and knife at the lower left of the camera app. If your lens is pointed at a flower, the icon changes to a flower. The intelligent camera, which learned 100 million images, can detect 13 different kinds of objects and scenes such as texts, food, sky, snow, beach, pets, portraits, low-light conditions, plants, etc. Once it captures the object or scene and recognizes it, the camera automatically adjusts shooting parameters (color, contrast, brightness) to produce the best picture with brighter and more vivid details. For example, if you are snapping a flower picture, the camera focuses on details and it adds contrast so that colors pop up. If you are shooting a picture at night, the camera will add more brightness and color to produce vibrant and clear pictures in low-light conditions.

AI Motion Detection and better night photography

Promising a better night photography, Huawei paired its HUAWEI Mate 10 and HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro smartphones with the exceptional AI Motion detection which reduces blur; therefore, shooting moving subjects becomes easier and result in better image quality. Also, thanks to its AI capabilities, the camera can offer sharper and better night photography. The smartphones also bring the Night Photography Expert feature that can capture higher quality photos of beautiful night scenes than ever before.

AI-powered bokeh effect for perfect selfies

The HUAWEI Mate 10 and HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro cameras are coupled with detailed AI-powered Bokeh effects that capture beautiful portraits and selfies with more natural and detailed transition between the background and the subject. In addition to that, the camera supports an AI-powered Digital Zoom for clearer portraits and sharper pictures.
