Ooredoo, Kuwait’s fastest network in 2016, celebrated the launch of the iPhone 7 at its headquarters Friday evening. The special celebration was attended by hundreds of customers, who waiting for midnight to sign up to the latest plans with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. All customers who signed up to new plans at the launch event received a valuable prize from Ooredoo.
Commenting on this, Corporate Communications Senior Director at Ooredoo Kuwait Mijbil Alayoub said: “We’re happy to celebrate the launch of the new iPhone, which is the biggest event in the telecom world this year, with our customers for the third consecutive year. We are keen on providing our customers with the latest services and products to truly enrich their experience.”
Ooredoo registered more than 100 new customers within the first half hour of official sales, distributed among its 9 branches operating during this special launch event across Kuwait, for its individual and corporate clients.
With Ooredoo’s special iPhone 7 plans on Shamel, Ooredoo’s postpaid portfolio, individual customers can get next year’s iPhone for free, delivered to their homes at their convenience. This offer is valid for both models of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, with the usual competitive Shamel perks such as unlimited calls, free contract freeze, and default setting of carrying their unused internet to the following month.
ENTERTAINMENT AND PRIZES
The event was presented by social media influencers Bibi Alabdulmohsen and Yaqoub Boushehri, and comes as yet another testament for Ooredoo’s belief in youth and the mediums that are closer to them. The hosts, both of whom have a substantial followers base on social media channels, held a number of competitions on stage, awarding winners valuable prizes from Ooredoo.
The event also included musical performances by a band from the Netherlands, who use fire, water, and light in their visually stunning shows. This is the band’s first performance outside Europe.

The launch of the iPhone 7 coincides with Ooredoo Kuwait winning the title of the Fastest Network in Kuwait for 2016, awarded by Ookla, the company that runs the famous website Speedtest.net, a tool that measures network speed on users’ devices. The awards are based on speed test results conducted by hundreds of thousands of actual smartphone users in Kuwait.
Ooredoo regularly benchmarks its services in relation to all competition, and results have indicated that it scores higher than competition in terms of speed and capacity. The tests were conducted in various locations and under different conditions across Kuwait to better measure the network’s strength. Ooredoo Kuwait currently has more than 1,800 deployed LTE sites across Kuwait, covering the entire country. Ooredoo is continuously working with reputable organizations worldwide to introduce the future 5G internet to its customers.
