INJAZ recently conducted its annual National Entrepreneurship Competition, which aims to improve students’ skills and introduce them to the importance of entrepreneurship. The competition, which was held at Landmark Amman Hotel, included participants from more than 40 schools and centers for people with disabilities across the Kingdom.

The Competition featured a group of student teams and companies as well as several entrepreneurial projects, originated during three student-targeted INJAZ programs: The Company Start-up, Enterprise Business Challenge and My Team Programs.

Participating teams, companies and projects presented their products and services to the National Entrepreneurship Competition’s panel of judges, consisting of an exclusive group of business leaders and entrepreneurial experts. After evaluating each team’s work according to specified standards, the judges announced the winning teams from each program, recognizing their achievements and awarding them with numerous prizes.

The ‘Crew’ team from Mashrek International School was awarded the Best Product Award under The Company Start-up Program, which helps to introduce youth to entrepreneurial concepts and the process of planning for and establishing their own companies, thereby empowering them to effect change. Meanwhile, the ‘JTL’ team from Dahiet Al-Rasheed Secondary School for Girls in Amman was named Best Team, while ‘Shaabeer Mlawna’ team of That Al-Sawari Secondary School for Girls in Aqaba took home the Best Student Company Award.

With regards to the Enterprise Business Challenge Program, which acquaints students with work ethics and provides them with the tools to make sound financial and ethical decisions in the business world, students from Um Habiba Secondary School for Girls in Amman took home first and second place, which went to the ‘Smart Business’ and ‘Kulna Maen’ teams respectively. Third place was awarded to the ‘Petra Sons’ team from Wadi Musa Primary School for Boys in Ma’an Governorate.

Under the My Team Program, with the help of a teacher and a volunteer, students at centers for people with disabilities establish small businesses, whereby each student company chooses a product or service to be offered, distributing all involved tasks among themselves. First place in this program was awarded to students from the Families and Friends Society of Persons with Disabilities, while second place went to the students of Karak Center for Care and Rehabilitation and third to Badwa Center for Special Education.

The National Entrepreneurship Competition was sponsored by the Australian Embassy in Amman, Mashrek International School, Prince’s Trust International, the British Embassy in Amman, the Project Management Institute in the United States and Oxfam.
