Jordan HelpAge International and partners host open day
HelpAge International, Terre Des Hommes Italy, and the local community based organization; Soldiers Family Welfare Society have all partnered together to implement the project - Improving the health outcomes related to Non communicable diseases among vulnerable Jordanians in the Governorate of Zarqa through an intergenerational person centred approach to NCDs-Phase II. The project benefited about 1300 directly including women, men, older people, and youth.
On November 14, 2016, an open day will be held at the Soldiers Family Welfare Society in Zarqa, from 10 am-2 pm. Residents of Zarqa are welcome to visit the center and receive free check-ups for accessing blood sugar, hypertension, hearing and vision as well as participate in awareness sessions on leading a healthy lifestyle.
This day coincides with World Diabetes Day. The theme of World Diabetes Day 2016 is 'Eyes on Diabetes' and will focus on promoting the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and treatment to reduce the risk of serious complications. Type 2 diabetes is a growing problem in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. According to the International Diabetes Federation (MENA), there were 374,100 cases of diabetes in Jordan as of 2015 and this number does not consider the thousands of cases of diabetes that are underdiagnosed.
