Khalifa University participates in IDEX 2013

Khalifa University is participating in IDEX 2013, taking place February 17th to the 21st at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).
Students and faculty are in attendance at the University’s booth to answer questions on programs and research being conducted at the University. They also have the opportunity to explore the surrounding exhibition, which features the latest defense technology in the land, sea and air sectors, and hosts major defense companies from around the world.
During the exhibition, a number of Khalifa University students showcased their innovative research projects. An example of these projects was an Unmanned Air Vehicle that was built by a group of students for the Design/Build/Fly International Competition as part of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The prototype has many unique characteristics and can have many security-related, military and civilian applications.
The other project was also an airplane quadrator drone, where the students were able to build a metallic protection dome using an advanced 3D printer provided by Khalifa University to help fabricate computer generated designs into physical materials, which can then be used in prototype robots and devices. This air vehicle can be used for border surveillance, oil pipeline leakage inspection and other civilian applications.
“This exhibition is of special interest to our Masters of International and Civil Security Students, as many of them are currently working in the defense industry, UAE military or the police,” says Dr. Arif Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University. “But it’s also a wonderful opportunity for many of our undergraduate engineering students to get out and witness real life feats of engineering, meet with industry leaders, and open their eyes to a world of possibilities for their future. Whether they want to design military vehicles, robots for reconnaissance, defence or rescue purposes, or computer programs to combat online attacks, IDEX presents a great deal of exciting opportunities. It will be very inspiring for them.”
Khalifa University’s Masters of International and Civil Security focuses on providing the next generation of UAE industry leaders with the highest possible academic and practical education in the flied of security studies, in addition to, enhancing security policy analysis and planning for national leaders in the UAE, the Gulf States, and the broader region. It also gives students a background in disaster prevention and preparation, whether natural or man-made.
The University also offers other Masters Programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, and Information Security, as well as, Doctorate degree programs in Engineering with the option to specialize in Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear, Biomedical, Electrical and Computer, or Robotics Engineering.
These offerings complement its undergraduate degrees in Computer Engineering (with optional concentration in Software Systems), Communication, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (with optional concentration in Power Systems) and Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Industrial and Systems, and Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Al Hammadi continued, “We at Khalifa University are dedicated to preparing our students to be industry leaders, by offering them the best opportunities, both in the form of a high quality education, as well as, chances to mingle with industry leaders and see the things their learning about being used in real world situations. We are dedicated to helping to develop the knowledge economy envisioned by Abu Dhabi’s 2030 Vision.”
