Labour Minister Opens Qatar University's 12th Career Fair

Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs HE Dr Issa Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi graced the inaugural ceremony of Qatar University's (QU) 12th Career Fair in Doha on Monday.

Organised by QU Career Services Center (CSC), the four-day event, which will conclude on March 8, aims to provide high school and university students with the opportunity to meet and interact with employers and representatives of companies to seek employment, training and sponsorship opportunities.

The Career Fair offers QU students a chance to explore 1,700 employment opportunities, 400 internships and 60 academic sponsorships.

The event was inaugurated by Nuaimi and QU Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr Omar al Ansari in the presence of French Ambassador to Qatar HE Eric Chevallier, QU officials, deans, department heads and students. The fair is open to QU male students on March 5 and 6 and females on March 7 and 8.

The event features over 75 information booths from government and private organisations offering students an opportunity to interact with employers and get an insight into the labour market's needs and employers' expectations as well as the various training services and internships they can follow to develop their skills, abilities and professional experience.

Speaking on the occasion, Nuaimi said:"I would like to thank Qatar University for organising the career fair. This event contributes to raising students' awareness of the labour market needs, whether in public or private sectors. At the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, we offer the government scholarship programme to high school students, providing them with sponsorship and then with employment opportunities. Additionally, the ministry's Department of National Human Resources Development serves to provide Qatari nationals with employment opportunities in the private and public sectors."

In 1973, Qatar’s first national College of Education was founded by decree of the Emir of Qatar, in his vision to place education as a priority in the country’s expansion. Among a small population, the College admitted a respectable 57 male and 93 female students in its first year.
