Landmark Group announced the winners of the SuperKidz Creative Contest, awarding full scholarships to the two first prize winners of the contest, in partnership with GEMS Education.

From over 800 contestants, Nahar Hajira Anshas (aged four) was chosen as the first prize winner in the drawing category and Ann Mary Joseph (aged eight) was judged first in the story-writing category. Both these bright young children are being awarded a full year’s scholarship from GEMS Education.

To encourage the budding artist and writer, the SuperKidz organizing committee will also work with them to create an all-new adventure for Super Sam and Super Sara. Their story and message of healthy living will be illustrated professionally and produced into the next digital edition of the SuperKidz comic book, circulated across the region and India.

A part of the Landmark Group’s ‘Tenth Beat Diabetes Walk’ campaign, the SuperKidz creative contest was an online competition held across GCC & India, for children aged 4-10 years.  The drawing and story writing competition culminated in a fun-filled award ceremony at the Oasis Mall which included activities like Zumba sessions designed for kids, entertainers, and a chance to meet SuperKidz mascots Super Sam and Super Sara.

Speaking on the occasion, Nisha Jagtiani, Group Director, Landmark Group, said: “The SuperKidz Creative Contest was carefully designed to drive our message of healthy living amongst children. We were thrilled to receive such an overwhelming response, with so many thought-provoking stories and beautiful drawings. Our heartiest congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone who participated. We’d also like to say a special thanks to GEMS Education for extending their support to this initiative and helping us spread the message to the future of our society.”

The runners-up – Amal Choudhary Bilal for drawing and Kanaya Nur Salsabila for story writing, also received prizes including an iPad. A mini exhibition of the works of the shortlisted participants were also displayed at Oasis Mall.

Sir Christopher Stone, Global Chief Education Officer - GEMS MENASA, GCO EDUCATION said: “We are proud to have partnered with the Landmark Group’s Beat Diabetes Walk in its 10th Anniversary year and support their SuperKidz initiative, especially designed for children. Through this partnership, GEMS Education got involved in creating awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle among the youth – a message that we advocate

among our students at GEMS Schools. It is our pleasure to offer the scholarships to the two SuperKidz Creative Contest winners.”

The competition was judged by Ashraf Ghori, Dubai-based comic book artist, filmmaker and entrepreneur, and Hywel Jon Benbow, Head of Global Data & Analytics at GEMS Education. The judges were thoroughly impressed by the positive thoughts, tips and ideas that came in.

As part of its key corporate social responsibility and community purpose drive, Landmark Group partnered with GEMS Education to raise awareness and spread the message of healthy eating and active living among children through the SuperKidz initiative.  Along with the creative contest to get children thinking about a healthy lifestyle, the SuperKidz initiative reached out to more than 25,000 children across GEMS schools in the UAE. A team of fitness experts and mascots Super Sam & Super Sara visited schools to host energizer sessions with kids and talk about healthy eating and staying active.

A special SuperKidz arena was also set up at the Tenth Beat Diabetes Walk held at Zabeel Park in November, which saw over 18,000 attendees.
