LG Electronics introduces its new flagship G5 smartphone the world’s first modular mobile device

During a launch event held on Sunday, April 24th, at La Cucina, LG Electronics unveiled the world’s first modular smartphone, the G5. After making its official debut earlier this year at the 2016 Mobile World Congress, where it won the Best Mobile Handsets & Devices Award, the LG G5 is now available to local consumers.

As a modular smartphone, the LG G5 can be connected to a number of companion devices, known as the LG Friends, which provide enhanced functionality and a highly personalized mobile experience. Attached via the phone’s unique slide-out battery compartment, the LG Friends allow the G5 to perform an endless array of specialized functions, transforming the mobile phone into a digital camera, a Hi-Fi audio player, a virtual reality experience, a smart controller for various remote devices, and much more.

Speaking on the occasion of the launch, the Managing Director of LG Electronics Levant, Hongju Jeon, highlighted the revolutionary character of the new LG G5. With a first-of-its-kind modular design, the G5 epitomizes LG’s role as a trendsetter in the world of consumer electronics. Jeon explained that the company’s new flagship smartphone was designed to provide customers with a uniquely personalized and adaptable mobile experience, underscoring the fact that LG is keen to provide consumers in the local market with products that exceed their expectations and enhance their lives.

The new LG G5 boasts a sleek, fully metallic body and a 5.3-inch display that features smooth 3D Arc Glass, making the device a visual and aesthetic masterpiece. Meanwhile, the G5’s Always-On Display allows users to check the date, time, and various notifications without waking the phone. Furthermore, with a 135-degree wide angle lens, the G5 captures exceptionally clear, crisp photos and videos – and even more so with the attachment of select LG Friends devices, such as the LG CAM Plus (a module that provides the convenient grip and functional controls of a digital camera) and the LG 360 CAM (a 360-degree camera equipped with two 13-megapixel, 200-degree wide angle lenses).

Employing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the LG G5 is a powerful yet energy-efficient smartphone that provides consumers with a seamless, immersive user experience. As the first modular mobile device on the market, the arrival of the G5 ushers in a new era in the history of mobile technology.
