For the second year running, DP World is supporting “Shanab”, a men’s health initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients to highlight male cancer at the DP World Tour Championship taking place at Jumeirah Golf Estates from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November 2015.

The awareness campaign is based on an advert for golf fans to bring in their old golf balls and change them for new ones, provided by host venue Jumeirah Golf Estates, in packaging that explains issues around prostate and testicular cancer and how to check for it.

Testicular cancer is the number one cancer in young men aged 15 to 37. Worldwide, there are over 48,000 new patients diagnosed each year, with almost 9,000 fatalities while around six cases in 10 of prostate cancer are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older.

Kathryn Wightman-Beaven, Director - Global Corporate Responsibility, DP World, said: “This tournament is a major platform for raising issues around male cancers and is part of our mission to contribute to social issues of importance. The work of FOCP is very important and they support many families and patients through their treatment for cancer. We are pleased to be working with them again to highlight the disease.”

Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, General Director at Friends of Cancer Patients, added: “Shanab is the men’s health initiative that we launched in November 2014 addressing testicular and prostate cancer in men and it highlights the importance of early detection and to eliminate the stigma around both types of the disease and effective treatments by encouraging men to be aware of the signs. We are delighted to partner with DP World again at this year’s Championship and we look forward to raising cancer awareness among the fans and visitors.”

Yousuf Kazim, CEO of Jumeirah Golf Estates, said: “As host venue of the DP World Tour Championship this is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of such an important issue to the significant number of residents, fans and spectators we have visiting Jumeirah Golf Estates next week.”

Bring your old golf balls to the Shanab exhibition unit in the Championship Village at the DP World Tour Championship, where you will be able to change them for a Friends of Cancer Patients ‘Shanab’ ball pack.

General admission to the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates is free of charge and can be obtained by registering online at www.DPWorldTourChampionship.com.
