Maradona: ‘Etisalat Cup Loss Not End of the Road’
Al Wasl Head Coach Diego Maradona reassures fans after yesterday’s defeat in the Etisalat Cup, saying that results will come.
“We were unlucky yesterday, it was a big defeat and we accept that, and now it’s time to move on. This is but a small bump in the road, ahead of us is a long journey starting next week with the first match of the Pro-League Season.”
“Nothing will deter us from the goal; each game makes us stronger. The Etisalat Cup was a playground for experimenting with different tactics, formations and starting line-ups in order to uncover our strengths, so that we can use them at full force for the big games. I’d rather we learn from experiences now, rather than [the league].”
The management of Al Wasl Football Company reaffirms its support in Maradona and expressly states that he will not be judged by a single match. “The season is long, and this is just one match. This is just the beginning and we have full faith in our head coach who is working hard to develop a strong team that will be true contenders for this year’s League title.
On that note, Al Wasl Football Company announced that they are in the process of finalising a contract with 28-year old Australian born Uruguayan striker, Richard Porta. He is expected to arrive in Dubai in two days to undergo his medical before officially joining the team.
Known for his height and strength, Porta has played for River Plate Montevideo and the Italian A.C. Siena, in addition to playing for the under 17 National Australian team and the under 20 National Uruguayan team.
