Markazia transforms Amman’s Rooftops into beautiful Gardens
Markazia, the sole distributor of Toyota, Lexus and Hino trucks in Jordan, launched an environmental initiative aimed at cultivating the roofs of several buildings in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and turning them into beautiful Gardens. The project is being implemented by Markazia in partnership with Aster for rooftop gardens, a company inspired by an initiative launched by Kamal Al-Hamoud which aims to spread environmental awareness by introducing the concept of rooftop gardens to the Jordanian civil society. This environmental initiative falls under Markazia’s corporate social responsibility program as well as its support for innovative projects and ideas that contribute to the development of Jordanian society.
The projects include planting four different rooftops in Amman in Jabal Al-Weibdeh and will extend throughout the year of 2016. Work officially started for the first building in Al-Weibdeh on April 22nd with the kind participation of the owners and residents of the building as well as a group of young volunteers and residents of the area.
The Planting process is divided into phases which include cleaning the rooftops, isolating them and building docks. Then, the planting process begins with a variety of green and fruitful plants as well as the incorporation of both natural and industrial grass which give the garden a special glow. Recycled materials from cars, barrels and timber are incorporated in preparing and cultivating the rooftops.
While commenting on this initiative, the Deputy General Manager at Markazia Nadim Haddad said, "This environmental initiative is in harmony with Markazia’s strategy, its commitment to community development and the dissemination of an environmental culture. This is made possible through promoting green rooftops in Jordan which gives impeccable elegance to the geographical perimeter of the city of Amman and its residential areas. More importantly however is the ecological importance of this initiative and its impact on the climate on which the lives of our children depend. This project will surely contribute to spreading environmental awareness and teaching younger generations about the importance of maintaining green spaces and working towards their increase, especially in cities and populated areas that are overwhelmed with construction and concrete. "
After completing the cultivation of each building, it is decided that discussion sessions will be held on the rooftop for the activists and volunteers who participated in the planting as well as the residents of the building and their neighbors, to create an interactive space between the people of the area while also enjoying the greenery.
We’re in the business of making great cars and trucks. But we also work every day to apply and share our know-how in ways that benefit people, the community, and our planet in order to build a better tomorrow.
