Mercedes-Benz dominates at the Oman Auto Excellence Awards 2016

Closing yet another successful year, Mercedes-Benz won five awards at the first annual Oman Auto Excellence Awards 2016. Held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, the awards celebrated the best of Oman’s automobile industry with 17 awards given out in the Sedan, SUV, Hatchback and Coupe/Convertible vehicle segments.  Mercedes-Benz was nominated in eight categories and took home five awards for Best Mid-Size Sedan, Best Premium Hatchback, Best Sports Coupe, Best Premium Sports Coupe and Best Crossover in the SUV category.

Accepting the awards on behalf of Mercedes-Benz Oman, CEO Lawrence Good said: “It’s a true honour to receive these accolades in these extraordinarily competitive categories. We’re really proud of our accomplishments –with five models receiving such prestigious recognition and eight models nominated, this is a remarkable achievement for us. These awards are the culmination of Mercedes-Benz’s enduring quality, uncompromising standards and delivery on our promise of ‘the Best or Nothing’.”

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was the big winner on the night winning in two different categories. Competing against seven prestigious cars from all over the world, the judges chose the Mercedes-Benz C-Class as the Best Mid-Size Sedan winner. The luxury sedan boasts precise lines that embody a sophisticated sportiness, combining cutting-edge technology with outstanding performance. Embodying modern luxury, the C-Class Coupe took home the Best Sports Coupe award with its stylish and bold design taking athletic and youthful charm to a sporty new level.

Competing against nine other car makers, the GLA won for Best Crossover in the SUV category.  Fusing function and passion, this agile crossover delivers true off-road capability with industry leading innovations.  While the wider, sportier and feistier A-Class won the Best Premium Hatchback surging ahead of its competition delivering a four door hatch with a sporty coupe design.

With its sporty-classic proportions and self-assured style, the S-Class Coupé dominated the Best Premium Sports Coupe category. Complemented by its breath-taking design, the S-Class Coupe leads the pack with innovations such as Magic Body Control suspension with the new curve tilting function for an exceptionally dynamic drive and seemingly endless power.

The Oman Auto Excellence awards were judged by a panel of distinguished automotive experts and journalists including Scott Armstrong, Chief Executive Editor at the Times of Oman, Ayman Mansour, Editor at Al Sayyarat Newspaper, Mohamed Sheta, Editor in Chief of Auto Arabia, Mashfique Chowdhury CEO of DriveArabia.com, Georges Bialade General Manager of YallaMotor and Iztok Franko, Foreign Correspondent CarbonOctane. The judging panel vote on the basis of Occupant Environment, Performance, Value, Safety Environment, Market Significance, and Emotional Appeal for each award category.
