Millennium Resort Mussanah announces first Millennium Triathlon event

Millennium Resort Mussanah, in association with the Muscat Triathlon Club, will be hosting the inaugural Millennium Triathlon on October 7^th 2016, a one of a kind multisport race set to attract athletes from across the region. With its state-of-the-art marina and world-class grounds fully prepared to challenge even the fastest finishers, the resort is inviting participants of all levels and everyone who loves athletics to a day filled with fun, speed and sportsmanship.

The Millennium Triathlon will be divided into two races comprising the Sprint Distance and Olympic Distance categories. The Sprint competition will include a 750 meter swim, 20 kilometres of cycling, and a 5 kilometre run to the finish line. The Olympic category on the other hand will put competitors to the ultimate test with a 1,000 meter swim and 40 kilometres of cycling before ending with a 10 kilometre run. The event will start and finish at the resort’s Event Plaza, with the swim conducted in its Marina, where kayaks and sighting buoys will be used to ensure the safety of all participants. Support stations and transition points have also been set up. Meanwhile, event coordinators and marshals from the Royal Oman Police will be on hand to cordon off all cycling routes and watch over the event.

Millennium Resort Mussanah was built to host the highly successful 2010 Asian Beach Games and retained many of its world-class facilities. Other major events hosted by the resort include the FIFA Asian Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifications, the 2013 Laser World Championships, the inaugural Oman International Dragon Boat Festival and the second leg of the Muscat Triathlon Club’s Hotel Seriesin the year 2014.
