Millennium Resort Mussanah commemorates Earth Day 2016 by planting for the future

Taking action to create a greener future, the Millennium Resort Mussanah celebrated the 45th Earth Day with 25 students and educators from Wudam Al Sahil School by planting trees throughout the hotel as part of its efforts to combat pollution and drive sustainability among Omani youth. In addition to its ambitious tree planting drive, resort staff entertained and educated children with a wide variety of conservation related games and activities. Guests will also be able to contribute to the fight against climate change when visiting the resort by planting seeds of their own.
Going above and beyond in its care for the environment, Millennium Resort Mussanah’s dedicated Green Team, led by veteran Executive Housekeeper Rita Ogunfiditimi, also carried out a special sustainability project for Earth Day. The group of 15 employees launched an on- going coastal clean-up drive and a recycle, reuse, and reduce program to help the schoolchildren better understand sustainability by seeing it in practice.
The tree planting project was inspired by the Earth Day Network’s ‘Trees for the Earth’ reforestation campaign which aims to plant 7.8 billion trees by 2020, one tree for every person on Earth. Commemorated annually on April 22nd, Earth Day was first held in 1970 with the aim of building a healthy environment, addressing climate change, and protecting the Earth for future generations. Today, the movement has gone global with more than 1 billion people participating in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.
